The Young Investors Network (YIN), in collaboration with the UMB Investment Holdings Limited, on Tuesday, 23rd November, 2021, unleashed the 2021 edition of the Capital Market Quiz Competition, an initiative that brings on board students from various senior high schools in the Greater Accra Region to battle out intellectually on practices and concepts related to the capital market in Ghana.

This was after the Young Investors Network (YIN), in partnership with the Ghana Stock Exchange (GSE) and the UMB Stockbrokers Limited, launched the 2021 edition of the Capital Market Quiz and Stock Pitch Competitions respectively on the floor of the Ghana Stock Exchange on 13th October, 2021.

The Capital Market Quiz Competition is an annual competition which was instituted over six years ago with its mandate to promote capital market literacy among senior high school students in Ghana.

The competition, since its inception, has impacted thousands of students with practical knowledge in the capital market and related activities.

It is championed by the Young Investors Network in collaboration with its partners. The 2021 edition of the Capital Market Quiz Competition kicked off successfully with the semifinal stage featuring eight (8) selected senior high schools in the Greater Accra Region.

Competing schools included the Presbyterian Boys’ Senior High School – Legon, West Africa Senior High School, Kwabenya Community Senior High School, Forces Senior High and Technical School, Accra Academy, Tema Methodist Day Senior High School, Nungua Senior High School and the Holy Trinity Cathedral School.

The competition was held at the premises of the Presbyterian Boys’ Senior High School, Legon. In attendance for the occasion was the founder and president of the Young Investors Network, Mr. Joshua Mensah, who in his remarks to participating schools, explained that the purpose of the Capital Market Quiz Competition was to expose students to the makeup of Ghana’s capital market, and to propel them to familiarize themselves with its investing activities.

Also in attendance were representatives from the UMB Stockbrokers Limited, and speaking on behalf of the UMB, Miss Vincentia Narh-Saam challenged students to appreciate the relevance of investing at a tender age and encouraged them to join the Save-a-Cedi-a-Day Challenge, an initiative rolled out by the Young Investors Network and the UMB Investment Holdings Limited to whip up the savings and investment culture among the youth.

In attendance were also previous contestants of the Capital Market Quiz Competition who graced the occasion to share their experiences with the participating schools and motivated them to put up their best performances.

The long-awaited competition started off with the first contest featuring the host school Presbyterian Boys’ Senior High School, Kwabenya Community Senior High School, West Africa Senior High School and the Forces Senior High and Technical School. It was a fierce battle to behold as all four schools displayed a great deal of preparedness and readiness to emerge victorious and qualify to the next stage of the competition.

At the end of the first contest, West Africa Senior High School emerged victors, winning the first contest with the Presbyterian Boys’ Senior High School taking the second position.

The Forces Senior High and Technical School and the Kwabenya Community Senior High School took the third and fourth positions respectively.

Qualifying schools to the final stage were therefore the West Africa Senior High School and the Presbyterian Boys’ Senior High School. The second contest for the day quickly followed the first with four contesting schools namely the Tema Methodist Day Senior High School, Accra Academy, Nungua Senior High School and the Holy Trinity Cathedral School.

This contest was a tough challenge as all four schools were really up for the game. After battling it out intensely, the Tema Methodist Day Senior High School came out victorious with a narrow win over Accra Academy who took the second position.

The Nungua Senior High School and the Holy Trinity Cathedral School took the third and fourth positions respectively. Tema Methodist Day Senior High School and Accra Academy therefore qualified to the final stage of the competition.

The 2021 edition of the Capital Market Quiz Competition will be rounding up with the final stage set to take place on 9th December, 2021, two weeks following the semi-final stage.
