Government has officially handed over the site for the construction of the Jamestown Fishing Harbour to the Chinese engineers and contractors working on the project.
The harbour, when completed, will host several facilities including a cold-store, a market area and a creche for the kids of women who trade at the site, and it is being financed with a US$60 million grant from the Chinese government.
Deputy Minister of Transport Daniel Titus-Glover, during the handing over ceremony, in Accra, urged the people of the area to cooperate with the project team to ensure the successful completion of the facility, which is expected to be ready in about three years.
“Government has committed to provide infrastructural development to the area and constituents of the community should endeavour to cooperate with authorities for the successful completion of the project,” he said.
On local content and workers for the construction works, he added: “We have the human resource, in terms of labour, in the Odododiodioo constituency and I have appealed to the contractors to engage them.”
